Itinerary
Our morning city tour of Edinburgh includes some of the capital’s highlights including photo stops of Edinburgh Castle (optional visit), the Old Town, The Royal Mile, the Grassmarket and Holyrood Palace.
Leaving the city centre we drive through the volcanic heart of the city, Holyrood Park, and around Arthur’s Seat with amazing views over Scotland’s most beautiful city. Rosslyn Chapel has always been mysterious and its superb stone carvings are still not fully understood.
Many of them depict symbols relating to Old Testament texts and characters, the mysterious medieval order of the Knights Templar and to Freemasonry.
Incredibly, some of these carvings seem to show American plants such as maize and aloe vera, carved fifty years before Columbus’ voyages.
The Chapel achieved worldwide fame after the publication of the blockbuster novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’.
Our final stop is Glenkinchie Distillery in the rolling farmland of East Lothian. Fine malt whisky has been produced here since 1840.
You will have time for a guided tour of the distillery, to visit the museum and, of course, savour a dram of Scotland’s spirit itself.
