Terms of Service

Day Tours Terms of Service:

Acceptance of the conditions detailed below as per Scottish Law and Custom is implied when a booking is made.

Cancellation and rebooking – when a passenger cancels a tour, the effective date of cancellation will be the date on which we receive notification by telephone or email.

Day tours cancellation charges will be applied as follows:

  • Up to 24 hours before departure – no charge/free rebooking or refund
  • Less than 24 hours before departure – entirely at our discretion but typically 100% charge (no refund) unless the seat(s) can be resold

Heart of Scotland Tours Ltd reserves the right to cancel a scheduled tour if the minimum number of passengers has not been reached (normally around 5 passengers) or any other circumstances where we believe it to be necessary, e.g., dangerous weather conditions or other safety-related concerns. In such cases passengers will be informed as soon as possible and either offered a transfer to another Heart of Scotland tour, a transfer to a similar tour with an alternative tour operator, or a refund.

Departure point and late arrivals – no refunds will be offered if a passenger is late for a tour or cannot find the departure point. Please check in with your driver guide at Bus Stand ZE, Waterloo Place, EH1 3BQ (opposite Howie’s Restaurant) 15 minutes before departure.

Luggage – luggage allowance is up to 15 kg (33 lbs) per person.

Children – The minimum age for all tours is 5 years old. Please be aware there may be extended periods of travelling and our longer tours, in particular, may not be suitable for children. Children up to the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

What’s included in the price? – the tour price includes transportation and guiding only. Entrance fees to attractions, lunch and other refreshments are not included.

Vehicles – we reserve the right to change the type of vehicle if necessary.

Route alterations – we reserve the right to change or cancel a tour due to weather, roadworks, availability of attractions, or any other situation beyond our control.

Force Majeure – Heart of Scotland Tours Ltd does not accept liability for any event which is beyond our control. Such events may include (but are not limited to) war or threat of war, terrorist activity or the threat of terrorist activity, civil commotion or riot, any action taken by a governmental or public authority, industrial disputes, collapse of buildings, fire, explosion or accident, traffic or road conditions or road closures, technical or mechanical breakdown, adverse weather conditions, natural disasters and all similar events or circumstances.

Complaints – any complaints should initially be directed to your driver guide who will make every effort to resolve the problem. In the event that a complaint cannot be resolved on the day of the tour then it should be made in writing to [email protected].

Travel insurance – we strongly recommend you independently arrange comprehensive travel, medical and cancellation insurance.

Behaviour – we reserve the right not to carry any passenger(s) whose behaviour is causing offence or alarm to others and to refuse onward travel if necessary.

Smoking (including e-cigarettes) – smoking is not permitted on the Wee Red Bus but there are frequent stops en route for those who wish to smoke.

Payment – full payment is required at the time of booking and we accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express.

Overnight Tours Terms of Service:

Acceptance of the conditions detailed below as per Scottish Law and Custom is implied when a booking is made.

Overnight tours cancellation charges will be applied as follows:

  • Up to 8 days before departure – no charge/free rebooking or refund
  • Less than 8 days before departure – entirely at our discretion but typically 100% charge (no refund) unless the seat(s) can be resold. The passenger may also be liable for the total cost of accommodation.

Accommodation – the tour price does not include accommodation. Accommodation is pre-booked in your name and you pay your host on departure. Some accommodation will only accept cash and it is always a good idea to have cash when travelling in rural Scotland. Named accommodation is not possible at the time of booking. You may be liable for the total cost of accommodation in the event of you cancelling a tour.

Choose from hostel (£30 to £40 per person, per night), B&B single (£60 to £120 per person, per night), en-suite B&B double/twin (£120 to £190 per room, per night – 2 sharing), en-suite B&B triple/quad (£160-£240 per room, per night – 3 or 4 sharing), or hotel (£160 to £240+ per room, per night – 2 sharing).

Accommodation in rural areas such as Skye can sometimes be located 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre. Taxis are available if necessary.

Booking and Payment – The total tour cost must be paid in full by credit card / bank transfer to secure the booking. Entry to visitor attractions, accommodation, ferries, meals and refreshments are not included.

Cancellation and rebooking – when a passenger cancels a private tour, the effective date of cancellation will be the date on which we receive notification by telephone or email.

Private tours cancellation charges will be applied as follows:

  • Up to 8 days before departure – no charge/free rebooking or refund.
  • Less than 8 days before departure – entirely at our discretion but typically 100% charge (no refund) unless the tour is rescheduled.  The passenger may also be liable for the total cost of accommodation.

Accommodation – All accommodation should be booked independently of Heart of Scotland Tours but we are very happy to help and make recommendations as necessary.

What’s included in the price? – the tour price includes hotel pick up and drop off, transportation, guiding, all fuel and taxes.  Accommodation, entrance fees to attractions, ferries, lunch and other refreshments are not included.
