Our Guides

An introduction to our greatest asset, the knowledgeable, extrovert, fun loving guide team, who work hard to make every tour unique, interesting and enjoyable!

I’ve done many jobs in my days, even managed to be an engineer for a while. But none of them can match being a tour guide for a small, friendly company like Heart of Scotland Tours.

Every day is different, the dramatic scenery changes with the mists and clouds and sun (occasionally it rains!), although the fascinating history remains the same.

I like to think that I show my love of this beautiful country when I’m guiding, but hopefully in a realistic and honest way. I look forward to sharing it with you.

Some say Colin is very lucky. He spends his summers driving around Scotland showing visitors this beautiful land and the winters in the French Alps snowboarding.

Lucky or not, Colin’s year is taken up with his great passions – Scotland, its history and the mountains.  From Highland stock, Colin was actually born in Thailand and grew up in Jamaica. On returning to Scotland as a youth he knew he had come home.  He fills his spare time hill-walking, paragliding and scuba diving and when stationary has been known to enjoy a fine malt.

I live with my wife Susan and daughter Claire near Edinburgh. In the summertime, we love to visit the seaside and walk along the beach, usually eating ice-cream!

When I have time, I love to play golf on the beautiful courses Scotland is famous for, go to the theatre or just relax in the garden listening to my collection of Beatles records!

Hope to see you on the next tour!

I was born in Edinburgh and recently returned after 20 years away. Rediscovering Scotland's fabulous scenery - the wild Highlands, the rugged coast and peaceful islands - is a complete joy, and I feel privileged to spend my days sharing Scotland's unique magic with our visitors.

I am passionate about Scotland and my tours will introduce you to some of the characters in our past who have helped shape our distinct history.  I look forward to meeting you on a Heart of Scotland Tour.

I’m at my happiest exploring the nooks and crannies of Scotland. Happier still when I can share it with others, especially my wife Nicki.

With a background in travel I’ve been lucky enough to visit lots of very different countries. None have captured my imagination quite like these shores though and I’d like to think my enthusiasm for Scotland rubs off on others.

I’m a keen hiker, photographer and now ageing... hockey player, with a love of the outdoors. Go ahead and book a seat, I look forward to discovering Scotland with you.

After many years working as a retail manager, I decided to leave the comfort of my office and head for the hills. That's when I realised I could visit all my favourite places, and share them with the rest of the world.

My office now has some of the most beautiful views in the world and no emails in sight. When I have spare time I love to travel with my wife and daughter to Cullen in the north of Scotland for holidays....my family have to remind me not to guide when I drive them there!

I look forward to seeing you on board a Wee Red Bus soon.

A country boy at heart I've always had a passion for the outdoors and the wild places of Scotland. Combine this with a keen interest in the history, myths and legends of my homeland and you could say that I've found my ideal job.

It's a decade now that I've been proudly showing visitors around Scotland so I must enjoy it!  There can truly be few greater honours than the opportunity to share the beauty and wonder of the Highlands and Islands with you.

Having grown up in Dundee on Scotland’s east coast and spent my childhood holidaying up in the Highlands, returning to Scotland after 10 years living abroad felt like a real ‘homecoming’.  Travelling and working in some of the world’s most iconic places has been a fantastic experience for me.  It has, however, only made my love and affection for Scotland grow as I’ve come to realise how lucky we are here with our stunning scenery, diverse wildlife and long, fascinating (and often brutal and bloody) history.

With Heart of Scotland, I really believe I’ve found my perfect job!  Driving around my beautiful homeland, sharing some of its highlights at the same time as meeting interesting people from all over the world just couldn’t be any more ‘up my street’.  I’m looking forward to meeting some of you soon on a Wee Red Bus!

One of our youngest, yet most experienced guides, Danny has nearly ten years of guiding knowledge and stories under his belt.

A specialist on the Highlands, "I don't go south...", a tour with Danny is sure to entertain and educate in equal measure!

I’m a Glasgow born lad with a background in the dairy industry, working for over 25 years with farmers, land owners and communities throughout Scotland and the north of England. Going to work was an absolute pleasure, visiting some amazing parts of the country on a day to day basis. Becoming a driver guide has enabled me to continue this and consolidate all my passions into one.

It’s an honour and a pleasure to show off my country to fellow travellers - sharing the history, culture, myths and dramatic landscapes within these lands.

At Heart of Scotland there is a tour for everyone, come on board a Wee Red Bus and let us show you how amazing Scotland is.

Having spent most of my life travelling and working around the world, I now find myself back in my homeland of Scotland.

Spending my days on the mountains and islands of Scotland is just about my dream job. I have always been a real adrenaline junkie and it’s not uncommon to find me skydiving, bungee jumping, snowboarding and doing other crazy things in my spare time.

My motto is "we are not here for a long time, but we are here for a good time", my tours are informative and hopefully good fun.

As a proud Scot, I enjoy showing visitors around my wonderful country. Scotland’s fascinating culture, geography and history provide many stories I love to tell. It is a living history set amongst beautiful scenery and friendly people.

My clan is from the North-West Highlands where Gaels and Vikings lived. This is a heritage that I live today. I am also a keen hiker and conservation volunteer – always in the great Scottish outdoors!

Scotland’s story is sometimes tragic, sometimes thrilling but always interesting; and the story carries on even today. Having lived abroad (or England as it is sometimes known!) for a few years and working in a Government office for most of my life, it is a privilege to do what I do now; meeting people from all over the world. Come with me to the Highlands in the Wee Red Bus!

I spent my childhood in the mountains and glens of Scotland with my father, a keen mountaineer, Scottish writer and historian. I was raised on heroic tales of Highland clans, the Jacobites , battles for freedom and Scotland's rich history.

Winter finds me living in France where I pursue my passion for snowboarding and mountain life but I return to Scotland each summer, where I am now fortunate to have found my perfect job.

As a guide with Heart of Scotland Tours, I try to paint the same picture of Scotland that my father has painted for me. As we travel together through Scotland's rich and varied landscape, my goal is to give you a truly memorable and enjoyable experience and hopefully make this the first of many tours on a “Wee Red Bus”.

Back Office Team

Working hard to make your booking process easy are the back office team.

The journey began in 2001 when I started Heart of Scotland Tours in the ‘Wee Red Bus’, offering value-for-money guided bus tours around Scotland. Although the business has successfully expanded over the years our ethos remains exactly the same – 5 star tours proudly delivered by a small friendly team.  Our guides are wonderful ambassadors for their country.

14 years young, we are still enthusiastic and passionate about Scotland, her stunning landscape and fascinating history.  We have remained a relatively small business allowing you, the customer, to enjoy a personal experience which is second to none.  You’ll talk to ‘real people’ when you book and meet ‘real characters’ behind the wheel.  Why not join our community of delighted customers on a Heart of Scotland Tour and experience the essential Scotland for yourself!

Nick - Managing Director

A native of the north east of Scotland, I worked in the oil industry in Aberdeen for 25 years before moving to Edinburgh.

I became part of the Heart of Scotland Tours admin team in 2004 and subsequently began my new career in tourism!

I really enjoy chatting to our customers from all corners of the globe and in my spare time like to take long walks with my husband and our dog in Edinburgh’s wonderful parks or along the beautiful coastline to the east of the city.

Carolyn - Office Manager

I'm from Perthshire but I now live in Edinburgh with my partner and our dog, Jackson.

I spend my time trying to entertain Jackson, working for Heart of Scotland Tours and making my own jewellery. Having been a tour guide before, I now work behind the scenes, taking bookings and helping Nick and Carolyn.

I still love to explore Scotland and when we can, we head North and find a brilliant holiday cottage to get away for a while, plenty of beautiful beaches to walk Jackson!

Jenny - Duty Manager

Edinburgh is my home and I am loving being back after living in Canada for a while. I am a full time midwifery student and work part time for Heart of Scotland.

Travel, adventure and the outdoors are my main interests. I am most happy when I am up a mountain whether it be hiking up or snowboarding down. I have been lucky enough to have seen quite a lot of the world but plan to see a lot more as well as continuing to discover what bonnie Scotland has to offer.
