Dear Nick,
Just wanted to let Heart of Scotland know that we thought our tour with driver Andy was superb! His ability to both entertain and educate (and drive, all at the same time) made the tour feel authentic.
We liked hearing the ... Read more

Whisky Tasting Tour of Highland Perthshire

mapThis memorable whisky tour visits three distilleries set amidst the beautiful scenery of Highland Perthshire. Suitable for connoisseur and novice alike you will see how the ‘water of life’ is made, matured and taste for yourself why Scotch is enjoyed across the globe. Most importantly you will have plenty of time to sample Scotland’s spirit at all three distilleries.

Our first stop is the Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret (Scotland’s oldest distillery). Your day begins with a step-by-step guided tour of the distillery where you will learn how whisky is produced from barley to bottle. As well as walking you through the production process this is a unique interactive tour (which includes a BAFTA award-winning ‘birds eye’ film of bonnie Scotland!). After sampling Scotland’s favourite whisky at the nosing bar it’s time for lunch in the excellent restaurant (guided distillery tour and 1 dram of whisky £7.50 per adult).

Aberfeldy DistilleryA 30 minute scenic drive through the Sma’ Glen brings us to the Aberfeldy Distillery and Dewar’s World of Whisky; a fascinating historical perspective on one family’s vision and determination to promote and sell whisky around the world.

Their mission was clearly a resounding success given Dewar’s White Label is still the biggest selling brand in the United States! Here you will have the opportunity to tour the Dewar’s Museum, blend your own virtual whisky and sample TWO drams of Aberfeldy single malt or one of their world-famous blends (museum and 2 drams of whisky £7.00 per adult).

Following the silvery River Tay we soon arrive at Edradour, the smallest distillery in Scotland. Its picturesque setting in a valley (or glen) above the village of Pitlochry is an ideal place to sample the delicious single malt whisky, still made by just three men. This charming wee distillery only produces 12 casks of whisky per week and during the tour you will experience the sights, sounds and smells of a traditional whisky distillery, largely unchanged since Victorian times.

The whisky itself has a depth of flavour and quality which is a fine blend of altitude and mountain water. With a smooth, creamy texture and a hint of smokiness, Edradour is a mouth-watering way to finish the day! (guided distillery tour and 1 dram of whisky £5.00 per adult).

Our drive south takes us across the Forth Road Bridge with stunning views of the famous Forth Rail Bridge. Opened in 1890 it is 2.5 kms long and was one of the major engineering achievements of the Victorian age. The bridge took seven years to build, and more than fifty men were killed during its construction. The contractors used 55,000 tons of steel and eight million rivets to complete one of Scotland's most impressive landmarks.
